Collectable Gifts

Nobody sets out to collect felt mice. It happens to them.

The usual sequence is: someone is given one, they like it more than they expected, and then a birthday comes round and there is an obvious answer. Our reviews are full of it — "can't stop buying them", "adding to her collection", "she has six now".

There are over a hundred characters to collect, arranged in families. The Mice from Mousehole each have a job or a hobby — gardener, nurse, cricketer, artist, dog walker, beekeeper. The Sheep from Woolacombe knit, bake and shop. There are Baby Woodland Animals, a growing cast of ducks, and British wildlife.

Each is needle-felted by hand from organic wool, stands about 12cm tall, and costs between £12.99 and £19.99 — the price point is deliberate, because a collection should be buildable. They are designed in Faringdon, Oxfordshire by Sonia Spencer and made by skilled craftswomen in Kathmandu, Nepal and Jaipur, India.

New characters are released through the year. The awkward part is stopping.
